The Graduate Program in Civil Engineering (PPGEC) at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) welcomes applications from international candidates for both Master’s (M.Sc.) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees. Admission processes are designed to select highly qualified researchers aligned with our core concentration areas: Construction Engineering, Geotechnics, Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, and Spatial Information.

Admission Tracks & Timeline
Applications are managed directly through the UFV Graduate Admissions Portal. While specific schedules vary by call, the selection criteria traditionally evaluate academic transcripts, curriculum vitae productivity (based on Lattes or international standard templates), letters of recommendation, and a statement of research purpose. Ph.D. candidates may also be required to present and defend a research proposal outline aligned with the chosen advisor’s expertise.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit legalized or apostilled copies of their undergraduate diploma (for Master’s tracks) or Master’s diploma (for Ph.D. tracks), official academic transcripts, updated CV, and valid identification (Passport). While proficiency in Portuguese is not a mandatory prerequisite for submission—as core mandatory courses can be taught in English—students are expected to develop sufficient linguistic skills for regular academic interaction throughout their stay.
Scholarships & Funding Opportunities
PPGEC allocates institutional fellowships (such as CAPES and CNPq stipends) to top-ranked students based on the merit list of each selection cycle. International students may also apply through specific global funding agreements, including the GCUB International Cooperation Group, the Move La América program, and targeted UNITA alliance actions. Fellowship distribution is subject to budgetary availability and strict compliance with program guidelines.
International Student Support
Upon regular admission, the institutional onboarding process, student visa guidelines, and local registration procedures are coordinated in conjunction with UFV’s International Relations Office (DRI). International students have full access to university campus infrastructure, housing support orientation, university restaurants, specialized central libraries, and high-performance research laboratory networks.
