Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering (MCE)

The Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering supports the development of research related to computing applied to structural engineering. It has 8 (eight) workstations and software for programming, numerical analysis and statistical analysis applied to structural engineering. Among the software available at MCE are Vigamix: software for analyzing and sizing composite beams for building floor systems and developed by UFV professors); NZone: simulator for generating abacuses for steel beams with openings in the web for integration with service ducts; Desmet: software for checking metal profile sections; AutoCAD: software for computer-aided design; Abaqus: software for advanced analysis of structures via the Finite Element Method; SAP2000; Statistics; Mathcad; Porticus (advanced analysis of lattice structures; Thersys (simulation via FEM of the three-dimensional thermomechanical behavior of structures under fire); Pisafo (analysis of concrete structures under fire).

The modeling and simulations developed in the Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering have a direct connection with the area of Construction Engineering, and a strong interface with the area of Geotechnics, in the themes of Analytical Geotechnics. In relation to other institutions and postgraduate programs, there is potential for interface and support in the areas of modeling and simulation of steel, concrete and mixed steel and concrete systems and structural elements, shear connectors, structural behavior at room temperature and in a fire situation. There is a partnership with the Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering (MCE) in the area of structural mechanics and structural analysis of bridges and there is also potential for agreements with other institutions and researchers.
